Get emailed when your Identity instance is down

Time: ~3 min · Prereqs:

  • Admin role in your Kevra organization
  • An active Identity realm

What you'll set up

You add the email addresses that Kevra notifies when your Identity instance stops responding. Kevra checks your instance from outside every minute. If it can't load the sign-in endpoint for 5 minutes in a row, every alert contact gets an email, and another one when the instance recovers.

Before you begin

Use addresses your team actually reads during an incident, for example an on-call alias. Kevra emails the same addresses for every Identity alert of your organization; there is no per-realm routing.

Only organization admins can add or remove contacts. Members can see the list.

Step 1: Open Monitoring

  1. Sign in to the Kevra console as an organization admin.
  2. In the left menu, click Monitoring.
  3. Scroll to the Alert contacts card.

Step 2: Add a contact

  1. Type the email address in the field at the bottom of the card.
  2. Click Add contact.

Repeat for each address. To stop notifying someone, click the trash icon next to their address.

Verify it worked

The address shows up in the Alert contacts list right after you click Add contact. If you want to see a test notification before a real incident, ask the Kevra team to send one.

What the emails look like

  • Subject [Alert] Your Kevra Identity instance is unreachable: sent after 5 minutes without a response, then again every 4 hours while the problem lasts.
  • Subject [Resolved] Your Kevra Identity instance is unreachable: sent once the instance responds again.

The Kevra team gets its own alert for the same event at the same time, so you don't need to open a ticket to tell us.

Troubleshooting

No email arrived. Check spam for messages from the Kevra Dashboard. Then confirm the address is in the Alert contacts list without typos.

"Enter a valid email address." The field accepts a single address. Add several addresses one at a time.
